The Beth Israel family is composed of over 150 membership “units.” That label “units” is broad enough to reflect the diversity of the Beth Israel membership. Our members span every possible category: male and female, married and single, younger and older, religious active and religiously curious. We’ve moved here from all over the country and also have a few members whose affiliations span generations.
Some members find connection in attending services, and some find connections through adult ed programs or holiday celebrations. Some attend services weekly and others are there for the High Holidays.
However diverse we are, we also share many commonalities. Over time, we’ve become each other’s extended families. We share the simcha of a new baby, a bar/bat mitzvah, and a wedding. We provide support during illness and bereavement. We know each other’s kids and watch them grow up. Above all, Beth Israel is filled with people who are seeking a vibrant and meaningful connection to their Judaism. Many of us arrived at Beth Israel with little experience and knowledge about Judaism and have used our time here to broaden and deepen our connections.
We are a congregation that values involvement and individuality. Beth Israel balances respect for tradition with an awareness that innovations can add vibrancy to living Jewishly every day.
