Meet the Midrash with Rabbi Justin Goldstein

Out of the texts of the Torah, the Rabbis created teachings bringing deeper meanings to the wisdom of the Jewish people known as Midrash. Each week we will explore some of these teachings based on the weekly Torah portion. We will gain not only an understanding of what the Rabbis were teaching, but how and why they were able to offer these teachings.

Introduction to Modern Hebrew Class
Feb 22 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

This course will give participants a foundation in Modern Hebrew language, starting with the Hebrew letters, moving into basic sentences and phrases and ending with verb construction.  The classes will be donation-based, with all donations benefitting the Yad B’Yad Center for Jewish-Arab Education in Jerusalem, Israel.  Capped at 15 participants. All ages welcome. Taught by Matt Andersen.

JCC: Musical Tot Shabbat

All are welcome to join our weekly musical Shabbat celebration for young children and families, led by Penny White. Children not enrolled in JCC children’s programs must be accompanied by an adult. Schedule can sometimes change, so please call 253-0701 to confirm prior to attending.

You can also find a copy of Penny White’s award-winning CD Shabbat Shindig at the front desk at the JCC. Shabbat Shindig  recently won The Parent’s Choice Foundation award! The Parent’s Choice Foundation chooses recipients based on multiple criteria including developmentally appropriate content, the product’s design and function, the educational value, long-term play value, and the benefits to a child’s social and emotional growth and well-being.

All proceeds from the sale of Shabbat Shindig with Penny go to the scholarship fund for the JCC’s Shalom Children’s Center.

Friday Noon Study Group – Short Stories by Jesus

The Noon Study Group is discussing Amy-Jill Levine’s Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi.  John Shelby Spong, a noted religious scholar, comments “Amy-Jill Levine invites her audience to read the parables of Jesus through a Jewish lens. The result is a series of stunning new insights into our religious heritage.”   Free and open to the public.  All are invited to attend our discussions.
